True[ish] - Week 3
”As Long as I’m Sincere”
Acts 17:16-23

  • True-ish: Statements that seem true, feel true, and that we may even want to be true, but they are not true.

  • Are all world religions similar enough to work?

  • 1. Religion isn’t enough.

  • 2.  Syncretism isn’t enough.

  • 3. Sincerity is not enough.

  • How do we sort out the truth and the traps?

    • Principle #1: Just because you are sincere in what you believe doesn’t make it true.

    • Principle #2 There may be truth in all world religions, but all world religions can’t be true.

    • Principle #3 Relativism has real consequences.

    • Principle #4: We must consider the claims of Christ.

  • 1. Evaluate his teaching.

  • 2. Consider the response to his miracles.

  • 3. What do you do with the resurrection?

  • 4. What if his claims are true?

  2. Read Acts 17:22. Religion is very prominent in our culture. What are some of the benefits of religion? How do we determine if someone is practicing a true form of religion? Does it even matter?

  3. Pastor Brian said, “There may be truth in all world religions, but all world religions can’t be true.” Why not?

  4. Read John 14:5-6. Did Jesus teach that he was one way to access God or the only way?

  5. Our three options when considering the person of Christ is that he is a liar, a lunatic, or Lord. How would you explain these options to a friend?

  6. Read Luke 1:1-4 and John 21:24-25. How confident were these two men in the person of Jesus?
