Self-Perception
Luke 14
Spiritual Holdup: A personal belief or experience that arrests the progression of our spiritual development.
Luke 14:1-6
“He took him and healed him and sent him away.”
“…and they could not reply to these things.”
Luke 14:7-11
Entitlement: I am the end game!.
Entitlement: the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
Solution for Entitlement:
Realize that Honor is not under my control
(10) “…when the host comes, he may say to you .. .”
Reject false presumption
(11) “…but when you are invited go and sit in the lowest place…”
Understand that Honor is counter-intuitive
(11) “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled and who ever humbles himself will be exalted.”
Elitism: My social circle is the end game!
Luke 14:12-14
Elitism grows out of hidden selfish motivations.
Elitism wins when I limit my exposure to those who are just like me.
Elitism manifests itself when I exclude those who are outside my comfort zone.
Narcissism: My personal pursuits are the end game!
My Work: “I have bought a field…I have bought five oxen…and I must go and examine them.”
My Family: “I’ve just married a wife and I cannot come”
